“The first of the Sunday concerts announced by Mr. Daly at the Grand Opera House took place last night before a respectable but rather small audience. There was an orchestra of about 40 pieces conducted by Mr. Maretzek and Mr. Carlberg alternately, and some of the lesser lights of the Italian Opera Company, together with Miss Rose Hersee, appeared in a miscellaneous programme, sufficiently light and varied for the occasion. Mlle. Levielli, M. Jamet, and Sig. Sparapani sang; but Sig. Vizzani and Sig. Ronconi, whose names were on the programme, and Señora Sanz (who had been advertised under the name of Saur) were absent. The Grand Opera House is well adapted and well situated for Sunday concerts, and there is no reason why Mr. Daly’s venture should not prove successful.”
