“This evening to the first (& perhaps last) C. M. A. rehearsal for this season. Horsley took up Haydn’s 3rd Mass & appeared well as conductor. Attendance of chorus unexpectedly large, among them Mrs. Anna Bishop, nice little Mrs. Burton Harrison, & many other familiar faces. Everything promising but the treasury. Only about $5000.00 subscribed as yet. I want to back out, & let Rev. Cooke run the machine as he feels sure he can, but he won’t consent to my withdrawal.”
