“…are nightly received with much favor; as are the violin playing of Americas, the drumming of Herr Schalkenberg, and the singing of Master Collard. The music, composed and arranged by Mr. Michael Connelly, is charming and appropriate. The latter gentleman has also introduced a novel feature as regards the orchestral music. Instead of playing the overture before the commencement of the spectacle, when the noise made by the assembling audience would prevent its being enjoyed, he substitutes a pot pourri of light pleasing melodies, and performs the overture just before the transformation scene, when the audience is quiet. The applause bestowed during the past week attests that the change has made a favorable impression.”
