“We have only space to record the complete success of Mr. Maretzek’s first Sunday concert, given at Wallack’s Theatre, last evening. The audience was very large, and the applause enthusiastic. The first part of the programme consisted of selections from Rossini’s ‘Stabat Mater,’ recited by Signori Vizzani and Coulon, Mme. Levielia and Señorita Sanz, and the full chorus of the Academy. In the second part of the performance, Signori Abrugnedo, Moriami, Jamet and Coulon, Miss Doria, and Señorita Sanz were concerned. M. Jamet, after being compelled to repeat the rondo ‘Dio dell’Or,’ was forced to supplement his share of the evening’s work with the serenade from ‘Faust.’ Señorita Sanz was equally honored, and she sang thrice instead of once.”
