“A very excellent and highly-appreciative audience assembled last night at De Garmo’s, on the occasion of the first of ‘Three Evenings of English Glees’ announced by Messrs. Bush, Rockwood, Beckett and Aiken. This quartet is justly prized by all musical amateurs, and last evening was gracefully assisted by Miss Beebe and Miss Finch.

Selections from Calcott, Hatton, Cooke and others were interpreted carefully and delicately, in a manner most creditable to the reputation of the quartet as musical scholars.

Mr. Beckett’s rich and sympathetic voice, excellently used, was heard to great advantage in the ‘Yeoman’s Wedding Song’ by Poniatowski, while Callcott’s quartet, ‘With Sighs, Sweet Rose,’ charmed everyone.”
