“Steinway Hall was crowded last night on the occasion of the first concert of the New York Conservatory of Music. An amateur orchestra rendered a couple of classical works creditably, and among the many pupils who appeared Miss Clementine Lasar and Miss Randall, as vocalists, and Miss Vaillant and Miss Bridges, as pianists, made quite a flattering success. The other ladies and gentlemen who took part in the concert gave evidence of careful training and sound musical instruction, which is very creditable to the institution. Mr. Griswold, the director of the Conservatory, and his assistants may be congratulated on the evident progress made by the pupils who appeared last evening.”

“The pupils of the New-York Conservatory of Music gave a concert at Steinway Hall on Saturday evening. The place was filled to overflowing, and a liberal programme was interpreted, from first to last, with a skill and taste which spoke well for the training received at the useful establishment whence the performers came. The elements of the entertainment were recitations by a good amateur orchestra; songs by Misses Lasar and Randall, and Messrs. Rockwood and Cross; and piano and organ pieces by Misses Rogers, Barrows, Bridges, Childs, Frazer, Vailant, Haupt, Tryon, and Roberts, and Mr. Dunnell.”
