Celia Iferd (Mrs. Hen Mason) benefit on Thursday afternoon.
Celia Iferd’s benefit: performers who volunteered, specialties performed. “Charles and Marian Young, character duettists, made their metropolitan debut on that occasion, and performed in an effective manner a musical sketch illustrative of Scottish life, their dialect and vocal efforts being excellent…Mr. Young then performed a bone-solo, which equaled any that we have hitherto heard. Johnny Moran sang Irish character songs which were liberally applauded. He has a good voice, his dialect is excellent, and his manipulations on the [illegible] are truly wonderful. Miss Belle Gordon is entitled to high rank among song-and-dance performers. Possessing a tall, well-moulded figure, a pretty face, a powerful voice and much skill in dancing, she gives eminent satisfaction…Miss Rowell, who has a pleasing face and was tastefully costumed, gave so great satisfaction in singing sensational songs that she was several times recalled…Miss Jennie Engel, in a fresh budget of serio-comic songs, evoked the enthusiasm of the audience. Gus Williams, one of the best character vocalists at present before the public, was recalled until he was compelled to desist, apparently, from sheer exhaustion.”
