“The third Sunday concert given by the Liederkranz Society at their club-house, this season, took place last evening. A very effective recital of Schubert’s ‘Die Allmacht,’ set for tenor-solo, chorus, and orchestra, by Liszt, was supplied by Herr Graf and the vocal and instrumental forces of the Liederkranz, led by Herr Paur; and Mr. Benno Walter, a violinist of whom we have already had occasion to speak, played very neatly a fantaisie-caprice (Opus 11.) of Vieuxtemps. The most ponderous element of the programme was Gade’s dramatic picture after Ossian, entitled ‘Der Comala,’ and done by Miss Antonia Henne, Miss Koch, (soprano,) Miss Keller, and Mr. Steins. A more finished interpretation than was given to ‘Der Comala’ is necessary to its interpretation, though we doubt if its impression would repay the requisite outlay of time.”
