“An immense audience was assembled last evening, in Steinway Hall, the occasion being the last concert in this city of the Jubilee Singers, and the last but one previous to their departure for England. The concerted pieces [see above] were all well received. Mr. White, Treasurer of Fisk University, and director of the troupe, previous to the close of the concert, thanked the audience and the citizens of New York generally for the generous aid extended to the troupe. Their tour has, thus far, he said, been very successful. He paid $25,000 for the 25 acres of land adjoining the university; had deposited [illegible] more for the credit of the building fund for Jubilee Hall, and had beside sufficient to pay their expenses across the ocean, and keep them for some time in England.”
