Review: New York Herald, 14 April 1873, 4.

“The music was, taken as a whole, quite fine. Mrs. Oliver’s superb soprano voice, that penetrated all parts of the church, being especially worthy of commendation. Mr. Simpson, the tenor, who is about to go to Europe, sang very well. Mrs. Ruchau’s [Bachau’s] contralto was decidedly good…the basso, as a whole, was not as good as the audience could wish it, but some passages were admirably executed by Mr. Clarke.”
