Announcement: New York Herald, 14 September 1873, 5.

“A number of ladies, mostly graduates of the Normal College, wishing to follow up their previous musical instruction, have just formed a vocal society, which they call the Winterburn Chorus, after the director, Mrs. Charlotte V. Winterburn [Clara V. Hutchings]. The society is to be composed exclusively of women…This society is excellent in design, for nothing can be more important to young ladies than an opportunity to pursue their musical training after leaving school. A great conservatoire may grow out of like enterprises.”
