“Grand inaugural of the summer season.”

Cast listing. “They [the Coleman Sisters] have little to do in the present instance beyond the execution of their musical specialties, which consist of fair performances on the cornet, clarionet, mouth harmonicon, drum and fife, banjos, etc. They also performed a double clog-dance and songs-and-dances, but they were all received in an apathetic manner by the very few persons in the auditorium. The little girls deserve credit for their efforts to please, and we can only regret that they were brought to the metropolis at such a season of the year.”

“The latter lady [Rose Osborn] sang a song, asking ‘What in the world shall I say?’ To this we venture to reply—say anything, but do not sing!”

Review: New York Sun, 10 June 1873, 2.

“The Coleman Sisters are two young girls, apparently about fifteen and thirteen years of age respectively, who give a sort of variety entertainment, consisting of musical performances on the cornet, banjo, and mouth harmonicon, diversified by occasional clog dancing and a song. They are attractive enough to excite the pity which one almost instinctively feels for children so engaged, and their efforts are so much superior to anything else in the piece that all its interest is derived from them.”
