Review: New York Clipper, 29 November 1873, 278.

“A large and intelligent audience were entertained…by the accomplished artists Miss Clara Norris and Mr. John S. Norton, who gave a number of select dramatic and humorous recitations. The proceeds of the benefit are to be devoted to the furtherance of the benevolent objects of the ‘Working Women’s Protective Union.’ In consequence of the frequent calls made upon the Union by worthy women who have been reduced to want by being unavoidably thrown out of employment, it has become apparent that an increase of the funds of the institution will be necessary…During the evening the grand organ of the hall discoursed delicious music, which added greatly to the entertainment…” No further mention of music.
