“…Theodore Thomas’ classical matinée at Steinway Hall was but slimly attended, the horrible weather being the cause. That it was unusually interesting may be seen at a glance at the programme, which we subjoin [see above].

The presentation of an entire symphony, and such a one, too, at a matinée, in addition to other important works, is a stretch of liberality for which Mr. Thomas deserves thanks and a better house than that of yesterday. The sad story of the bard of Ferrerra, a tribute from the true poet to the word poet, is one of the most remarkable efforts of the composer. How the above programme was rendered by this incomparable orchestra has been told over and over again in these columns.”
