“The Sixth Annual Benefit of the B. P. O. of Elks almost filled Niblo’s Garden on the afternoon of Oct. 30. The gallery was crowded, the intermediate circles were well peopled, and scarcely a vacant seat was to be seen in the lower house. Notwithstanding that a cheerless rain began to fall at about toilet time, the lady friends of the organization attended in force. The programme was rich and liberal—in fact, too liberal, exhausting fully three hours and fifty-three minutes, and this in spite of the dropping of the sketch of ‘The Liquor Dealers.’” A very long description of the event follows, noting each sketch and its performers.
