Humpty Dumpty is “destined for a long and prosperous run… The spectacle now running at the Grand Opera is as different from the ancient ‘Humpty Dumpty’ of the Olympic Theatre as it is from the ‘Black Crook’ or the ‘White Fawn.’ It preserves all the fun and extravagance of the old pantomime, while introducing the best and least objectionable features of the spectacle proper… The great features of this production, however, are unquestionably the scenery, the processions, and the ballets…” Long review. No mention of music.

“…Never before have so many people been gathered in a single theatre night after night as at this house during the last fortnight…as a pantomimist [Fox] has the field all to himself…” No mention of music.

Review: New York Clipper, 13 December 1873, 294.

“…continued large attendance attests the popularity of G. L. Fox, whose great reputation as a pantomimic clown is well deserved, and has been earned by laborious study and the practice of many years. On a few nights of the past week, owing to the inclemency of the weather, there was a slight dropping-off in the attendance. On Wednesday night, in consequence of the master machinist of the theatre being removed to the new Fifth-avenue Theatre, and the second in command being substituted for him, there were many hitches in the working of the tricks, which somewhat marred the performances. ‘Humpty Dumpty Abroad’ will probably continue the attraction until after the holidays. In consequence of an accident to Miss Fanny Hayward, Miss Nina Varian acted Docillan during a portion of the past week.”
