“Except on some special occasion, only two policemen will hereafter be sent to any place of amusement in this city. The reason of this is that the men complain of extra work and the manner in which they have been treated, especially at the Academy of Music, where they were expected to open carriage doors, as well as act as ushers. Sometimes as many as twenty policemen have been detailed there.”
