Review: New York Clipper, 27 December 1873, 310.

The page number at the upper left reads 810, but that is clearly a typo and should read 310. “The reinforcements at Tony Pastor’s on Dec. 15 were William Ashcroft, the Adams Brothers and Miss Kitty Brooke. Mr. Ashcroft sang character songs, and later in the evening gave an act called ‘The Musical Boy,’ during which he performed upon a great variety of musical instruments, winning much deserved applause. The Adams Brothers performed double Dutch songs-and-dances, which were favorably received. They were twice recalled, and on each reappearance an entire change of costume was notable. They have a good idea of character, speak the dialect well, and their performances were judiciously curtailed. Miss kitty Brooke in a charming toilet sang fresh serio-comic songs, concluding with a graceful hornpipe. She maintained the good opinion we recently expressed of her merits… Tony Pastor’s local songs met with their accustomed applause, and he cheerfully responded to numerous recalls; the Freeman sisters gave vocal duets; Jennie Engle [sic], sensational songs…” No further mention of music.
