“‘Le Petit Faust’ is one of the most meagre of comic operas, whether in plot, wit or melody. Its fun and its music are suited to the weakest caliber or to the sleepiest auditory; and it is a great proof of Mlle. Aimée’s talent in burlesque that she can win enthusiastic applause in such a piece. The Lyceum on Saturday night was as full as ever, and the music afforded was as much as good acting could furnish under the circumstances. The hit of the evening was perhaps the German song, which Aimée gave in an irresistibly funny style, and which received a double encore. Probably the fun in this song is much more perceptible to Frenchmen and Yankees than to Germans; but it was well sung and capitally acted. Mlle. Stani deserves special mention for her excellent rendering of the music of Mephisto, and the rest of the company, as usual, did more than justice to their very meagre parts. We hope to see them to good advantage in some of the better class of opera bouffe, which they are so well calculated to render.”
