The review only lists “Mr. Brandt” and “Mr. Werner” without giving their first names. It is difficult to ascertain their identities. Music in Gotham assumes it is the cellist Charles Werner, since he performed in several events in December 1873. Music in Gotham provides two possibilities in the performer list for Brandt.

“Among the Germans the day [Christmas] was generally celebrated as a holiday. The head-quarters of the numerous societies and clubs were extensively decorated with Christmas trees and pine foliage… The New-York Maennerchor gave a concert at Terrace Garden last night, for which a programme composed of some choice composition had been prepared, in the rendition of which several trained soloists assisted. The affair was wound up by a ball.”

“Mr. Reinhard Schmelz, a distinguished violinist and director of the New York Männerchor, gave a very interesting concert on Christmas night at Terrace Garden. In the andante and rondo ([illeg. – klavier?] quartet of Beethoven) he was assited by Messrs. Van Inten, Brandt and Werner. The solo vocalists on the occasion were Miss A. Simon and Herr Sohst. The Männerchor sang selections from Hoffmann, Abt and Billeter.”
