“Pic-Nic. Tonight in the Cremorne Garden the three clubs: Bergisch-Märkischer Kranken-Unterstützverein, Bergischer Männerchor and the Bergische Unterhaltungsverein are holding their Picnic and Summer Night Festival, which could not take place on the 13th of July because of the riot. Hopefully today no ‘unforeseen obstacle’ will thwart the festival, and various singing associations will take part in the festival.”
Ad indicates this performance was rescheduled from 7/13/63. “.. with the participation of various singing clubs [the picnic and performance] will take place on Thursday instead. In the evening there will be a brilliant lighting of the garden, as well as fireworks.”
“The grand event of the day . . . where three Societies—the Bergish Aid Society for the Sick, the Bergish Maennerchor, or Singing Club, and the Bergish Conversational Union—united in a general pic-nic and Summer Night Festival, assisted by a number of musical associations. . . . In the evening, the woods were illuminated with hundreds of colored lamps, and fireworks of every hue and device lit up the adjacent hills, while far and near the mingled music of skillful bands invited the joyous multitude to a prolongation of the dance. Our national airs, too, were played with fine effect.”
