“Trinity crowded to overflowing, but not so uncomfortably packed as on Ascension Day. With us Lucy [Derby] & Rosalie [Ruggles]. Service—mainly Gounod’s Mass—was well rendered & most affecting & beautiful. A very fair tenor took Rev. Cooke’s part in the sweet & solemn Sanctus, & we had for closing voluntary the Larghetto of the second symphony.”
