“A programme of unexampled brilliancy was presented by Mr. Thomas at the Central Park Garden last evening. It opened with Otto Singer’s ‘Inauguration March,’ which was followed by Beethoven’s ‘Consecration of the House’ overture. A “Hebrew Melody,’ a new work by Robert Franz, grand and massive yet tuneful and tender, was played with remarkable delicacy. This selection was heard for the first time at these concerts on Wednesday. Svendsen’s musical adaptation of the old Norse romance, ‘Sigurd Siembe,’ which was introduced at the symphony concerts in the winter, was performed last evening with admirable spirit. The second part was devoted to the presentation of Raff’s beautiful symphony ‘Lenore.’”
