“…Miss Maggie Gray, a newcomer, met with a fair degree of favor in serio-comic songs. She is a blonde, with a pleasant countenance and a shapely form and wore a short costume of white silk adorned with spangles and glass beads. Billy Courtright, made up as an aged negro, performed a song-and-dance, the melody of which was peculiarly taking. By his grotesque acting and eccentric manners he created an excellent impression, and was enthusiastically encored…The Ainsleys--father and son—in songs-and-dances, confirmed the good opinion we have hitherto expressed of them. Miss Phillis Glover, a well-known actress, made her debut on the variety stage as a vocalist, and by her correct singing of a couple of Scotch ballads gave evidence of present as well as future success in her new vocation. She was tastefully costumed, is good-looking, and graceful in her deportment…”
