“No diminution of audience from previous performances was observable last night at Central Park Garden on the occasion of the one hundred and ninth grand concert by the Thomas orchestra. As the Summer season approaches its close, perhaps music lovers are determined to make the most of the opportunities remaining. The programme last evening was mainly of a classical character, but judiciously leavened with a couple of Strauss waltzes. These latter were well received, but by no means elicited the applause given to the weightier music. The ‘Romance’ in G, by Beethoven, was rapturously encored. Wagner’s ‘Tannhauser’ overture and Mendelssohn’s ‘Scherzo,’ Scotch symphony, were also recalled but not repeated.”
