“The summer night’s festival given on Saturday evening at Terrace Garden by the Arion Society was almost an autumn night’s festival since the weather was so damp and chilly as to make the concert room pleasanter than the open air. It consisted of a concert, opera, and ball. The programme of the concert included the overture to the ‘Siege of Corinth,’ by Rossini, and selections from ‘Lohengrin;’ and this was followed by Reinecke’s pretty operetta in one act, entitled ‘Handel’s Adventure, or the Power of Song.’ The music is light and graceful, made up of songs, a brindisi, and several choruses, spoken dialogue filling in the intervals. The solo parts were artistically rendered by Mr. Remmertz and Fraulein Heiss, and the choruses were finely given by the Arion Society. After the opera followed a ball, into the pleasures of which the society and its friends entered with characteristic German spirit.”
