Announcement: New York Post, 07 September 1874, 4.

“During the two months’ suspension of services the position of the organ has been changed, the instrument has been cleaned, and a few necessary repairs have been made. The Rev. Hugh Miller Thompson is expected to officiate at the reopening. The music at Christ Church for a number of years made it one of the most attractive places of worship in the city. Upon the withdrawal of his support by Mr. Rufus Hatch, the choir was reduced, the quartet, which comprised some of the very first singers in the country, being discharged, and the services were sung by the chancel choir of men and boys. The quartet of professionals is to be again employed, and under the direction of Mr. James Pearce, the organist, the music will probably prove as attractive as before.”
