“The annual reopening of the Mercantile Library, which took place at Clinton Hall, last evening, furnished the occasion for another of those pleasant reunions that have so often lent a charm to the progress of that popular and useful Institution. . . . The attendance at the reopening last evening was very large, as usual, and comprised a goodly representation of the fair sex, who, we are glad to learn, are fast availing themselves of the privileges of membership, which the recent regulations of the Association permit.  Grafulla’s band discoursed choice selections of music to the promenaders in their rambles through the building.”
