“The English Glee Club, after a most successful tour in New England, gave last evening, at the Union League theatre, a benefit concert for their soprano, Miss Henrietta Beebe. The programme comprised a very choice selection from the best works of Pearsall, Hatton, Bishop, and other masters of English glee music. It was admirably interpreted by the club, and the enthusiasm of the crowded audience was prominently directed to the fair beneficiary, whose purity of tone and exceptionally neat and delicate execution especially fit her for this choice department of vocal music. The programme was practically doubled in response to the warm demands for encores.”

“The club, composed of six resident singers, who during the last two winters have made a speciality of interpreting English glees and part-songs, were listened to last evening with evident pleasure by an audience which filled the Union League Theatre. We have frequently expressed our favorable opinion of the manner in which this club sings these glees, and after listening to them again we feel in no wise inclined to qualify our previous commendation of their intelligent and dainty performance. Miss Beebe (for whose benefit the concert was given) gave a sweet and finished interpretation of Mendelssohn’s ‘Spring Song,’ and in response to a hearty recall rendered ‘Bid me Discourse’ in a manner which exhibited her agreeable voice and excellent vocal culture.

Miss Finch and Mr. Beckett also sang solos, and were the recipients of abundant applause.”
