“There was a remarkably large attendance yesterday afternoon at the organ concert given at Holy Trinity Church, in Madison avenue. Mr. S. P. Warren performed a selection of music of great interest in a manner worthy of it, his own reputation, and the magnificent organ at which he presided. The Adagio from the ‘Symphonie Triumphale,’ by Ulrich, was specially welcome to those who remembered hearing it ten years ago given entire by the Philharmonic Society. Reubke’s organ sonata in C minor was proved to be a truly grand composition, and showed traces of the influence of Liszt, under whom its author studied with great devotion. The poetic idea or motto is found in the 94th Psalm, a suggestive text which puts one immediately in the proper mood for the enjoyment of this original music. Wagner’s introduction to ‘Lohengrin’ was happily chosen, being well suited to the organ. A brilliant performance of Mozart’s overture, ‘Die Zauberflöte,’ ended the concert. Mrs. J. M. Davidson sang two sacred songs with considerable pathos and feeling. Her excellent voice and method were greatly admired.”
