Review: New-York Times, 07 September 1863, 4.

“We had the pleasure on Friday of attending a choral rehearsal of the music of ‘Euryanthe,’ under Mr. Anschutz’s direction, and were completely astonished and charmed with the precision and power that have already been attained in that difficult music.  The chorus, to be sure, is a picked one—the voices being uniformly good and thoroughly experienced.”

Article: New-York Times, 14 September 1863, 4.

On German Opera rehearsals and the upcoming season.  “The chorus rehearsals of the German Opera company are being prosecuted with equal vigor and success by Mr. Anschutz.  ‘Euryanthe,’ by Weber, and ‘Faust’ by Gounod, have already been studied, and the present week will be devoted to Spohr’s ‘Jessonda.’  Mr. Anschutz’s singers are expected to arrive by the next steamer from Europe; also Mr. Maretzek’s prima donna—Signora Medori.”
