“At the Lyceum Theatre, ‘Giroflé-Girofla,’ Lecocq’s charming opera, proved during the past week as attractive a card as on its first production in this city. The opera, although offering but little for the non-musical to remember and carry away as a reminiscence, has firmly established itself as a favorite with the public, being filled with a succession of brilliant numbers that grow upon the hearer at each repetition, and is imbued with a dramatic character that constantly arrests the attention. It has received a most creditable interpretation from the artists of the excellent bouffe company, and the large measure of popular success which it has attained is without doubt due to their clever exposition of this charming work.”
