“Mr. Neil Bryant, the only surviving brother of the talented family that made negro minstrelsy so popular in this country, has reorganized the troupe of which poor Dan was chief, and has secured some of the best members of the profession, such as Dave Reed, Barry Brockway, Delehanty and Hengler, &c. Their recent performance at the Academy of Music was an exceedingly enjoyable one—ballads, jokes, comic ditties, sketches and instrumental solos succeeding each other with a capital effect and evoking the most hearty applause from the audience. A great deal of credit is due to Mr. Neil Bryant for organizing such an excellent company, and success should crown his efforts.”

“Bryant’s Minstrels gave a single performance at the Academy of Music on Saturday evening, May 29. Although the company was a very strong one, and the entertainment attractive, the attendance was by no means so large as the company deserved. The lower portion of the auditorium was fairly filled, but the attendance in the upper portions of the house was meagre. Neil Bryant reappeared upon the Metropolitan stage, after an absence of ten years, and performed a solo upon the flutina. He received a cordial and enthusiastic welcome.”
