“On Saturday night, June 19, melodious sounds were heard by the pedestrians on Broadway, emanating from the vicinity of a well-known restaurant in Twenty-second street, close by the main thoroughfare of the city. Looking at the group, we found a number of professional vocalists who seldom display their vocal accomplishments in the street. After singing there a brief time, they visited the St. James Hotel, and serenaded Tom Maguire; and the Sturtevant House, paying a like compliment to Mrs. Emerson; and then went to an ‘hostelrie’ dedicated to Gambrinus, where they quaffed the foaming lager, and sang and chatted long into the morning.
