“Prosperity attends the ‘English Opera Bouffe’ at Robinson Hall, and this cheerful little theater has attained both solid character and valuable prestige, under Mr. Robinson’s energetic management. No influence so much fosters a theater as a good policy made definite; and this, of late, Mr. Robinson has employed. We note the continuance of ‘Lischen and Fritzchen’ and ‘Chilperic.’ The latter piece enters tonight upon its fourth week.”
“A very clever and sparkling performance is given every evening at this cosey little hall, in the shape of English opéra bouffe. Last night Herve’s opera, ‘Chilperic,’ was presented before a large house. Of those who took part in it particular mention must be made favorably of Mr. Woodfield as Chilperic, Miss Clara Fisher as Frédegonde, Mr. Atkins as the court physician, Mr. Jepson as Sigebert and Miss Clancy as Galsuinda. The chorus and orchestra, although small in numbers, were admirable, and the piece was very handsomely mounted.”
“Opera-bouffe continues as prosperous as ever at Robinson Hall, notwithstanding the opposition of the weather and the counter attractions offered elsewhere, proving potent enough to draw substantial returns to the managerial coffers, and to have made the house one of the established places of amusement in the city.”
