“…The Cawthornes performed a musical sketch called ‘The Two Emigrants.’ Herbert gave an effective impersonation of a neat Irish lad, singing a song sweetly and dancing with agility. Little Joe made a most comical Dutchman. His face is very expressive, and he apparently enjoys the mirth that he creates as much as any of his auditors. He sings and dances well, and considering his tender years may be pronounced a wonderful performer…Harris and Carroll, who reappeared after a brief absence, gave a sketch entitle ‘The Slave’s Return.’ They are excellent performers. Upon their second response to a recall, one produced a small portion of a cigar, which he lighted and commenced to smoke, and announced that he would sing a song while smoking. He then commenced to sing ‘Then you’ll remember me,’ and, at the end of the first line, he drew the cigar inside of his mouth, so that it was entirely concealed from view, and continued his singing, and at the end of that line he caused it to project from his mouth, when it was seen to be lighted, and he continued to smoke it as he sang. This action was repeated throughout the song, and elicited much applause…”
