“At the Park Theatre, ‘Girofle-Girofla’ continues to draw most excellent houses, giving every indication of its being the successful attraction for the remainder of the season. M. De Quercy, who had been indisposed for several days, reappeared on Friday night, and was in capital voice, his character of Mourzouk during his illness having been enacted by M. Valter. Mlles. Geoffra [sic] and Minelli, who rank among the best opera-bouffe artists who have appeared on our local stage, have established themselves as undoubted favorites with the public, who have been quick to endorse their capital vocalization and acting. The positive success of the recital gives every evidence of a ready appreciation of the efforts of the management in the production of the opera, both as regards the scenic display and their judgment in the selection of artists who can so admirably interpret Lecocq’s melodious work.”
