Review: New-York Daily Tribune, 16 February 1875, 6.

“The dozen or more performers who, under the lead of Backus, Wambold, and Birch, form the company of the San Francisco Minstrels, continue nightly to personate the negro as one who in turn sings a good comic or sentimental ballad, tells funny stories, and makes witty remarks on the topics of the day. The ‘leading counsel’ makes a boisterous appeal to his imaginary jury, and the ‘young actor’ burlesque dramatic rehearsals as absurdly as could be desired. The most recent novelty is a pantomime, which has many of the incidents of the London one, though it may lack its brilliancy.”

“The San Francisco Minstrels continue to supply their patrons with an abundance of food for mirth, and with sweet, harmonious music at their elegant bijou theatre, and we are happy to state that their efforts to please have met with a satisfactory response upon the part of the public…” Program changes since last week.
