“A delightful concert in aid of the funds of St. John’s Guild, occurred at De Garmo’s Rooms, Fourteenth street and Fifth avenue, Friday evening. Some agreeable singing was enjoyed, and some capital piano-performances were listened to. Messrs. Romeyn and Sohst, and Miss Estelle were the most successful vocalists, Miss Vallant played very nicely Chopin’s scherzo in D flat, and a remarkably expressive and finished performance of the second movement of Schumann’s exacting concerto in A minor was contributed by Mrs. J. A. Stow and Miss Ada Leaman, in taste and technique, two of our best amateurs, who were both recalled. The entertainment, we are glad to say, was not only artistically successful in no ordinary degree, but must have netted a handsome sum for the worthy institution it was designed to aid. It was given under the direction of Mr. Louis Dachauer.”
