“The Park was very well attended during the concert yesterday afternoon, the weather being charming, although rather warm. The drive was, as usual, decorated with an assortment of gay equipages and equestrians, and everything went on as merrily as a marriage bell. The promenade was thronged with pedestrians, the ladies being attired in all the variety of light summer costume.

The concert commenced at the usual hour, and the programme was well selected.  The second part was composed entirely of classic music, and if this plan be adopted regularly, the lovers of ‘strong and heavy music’ will know when it will be performed, without having to wait through the whole programme, and the admirers of light music will know what time they can roam about without losing their favorite pieces.

Among the principal pretty pieces performed yesterday was a quickstep, arranged by Dodworth, upon the song, ‘Jennie with the Light Brown Hair,’ and was well received.  A solo on the cornopeon, ‘Heaven in the Valley,’ was very credibly performed.  The rest of the pieces were successfully played and seemed to give great pleasure to the audience.”

COMMENT: The Oxford English Dictionary says “cornopean” is a cornet-à-piston.
