“Mr. J. N. Pattison, the celebrated pianist, lectured on Liszt last night, at De Garmo Hall, illustrating his lecture with the following selections from the great pianist’s works [see above]. As may be seen from the above list the selections were all transcriptions and they certainly were fair representations of the powers of the Abbé Liszt as a composer. They were played to perfection, especially the selection from Berlioz, which created a marked impression. Mr. Pattison’s remarks on the king of living pianists were well considered, effective and exceedingly interesting. The influence on piano playing which Liszt has produced was portrayed in the most eloquent manner, and many thoughtful suggestions were given as to the dangers that beset the pianist’s path in yielding too much to such an influence. The crisp, emotional touch, perfect technique and intelligent expression and interpretation of the pianist, added a great deal of force to the logic of the lecturer.”
