Regarding the substitution of L’Ombra for Il Trovatore on Friday evening, “It would seem according to Mr. Maretzek’s [illegible] that Miss Saurel, who was to have assumed the role of Leonora wrote yesterday morning to Maretzek declining to play unless certain pecuniary demands were complied with. Mr. Maretzek therefore [begged?] her to remain at home and in very short [illegible] prepared a repetition of ‘L’Ombra’ with the original cast. There will be no matinee today.”
