“The San Francisco Minstrels have at last been affected by the educational movement, and now devote a part of every evening to a spelling match. It is really unfair to laugh at men who are earnestly striving to improve themselves, although it must be confessed that the blunders of some of the pupils are very ridiculous. The minstrels, however, are not all abashed by the merriment excited by their well-meant efforts, but positively seem to be encouraged by the roars of laughter which greet their futile struggles with the simplest words."
