“Went with Ellie to Jerome’s private theatre to hear Don Pasquale.  Ronconi was the unhappy Don and did his work admirably. All the other parts well filled.  I knew almost everyone in the little house, and spent a pleasant evening. Though the audience was so small compared with that of the Academy of Music, it was very ‘select’ and wholly made up of people who know or think they know a great deal about music and vocalization. So the actors (I beg their pardon--the artists--or rather soloistes) sang and acted with great spirit.”
