“It was an afternoon of extensive music. Mrs. Davison sang. Extremely effective in English ballad, but her tremolo does not suit (“Dove sono”). Her voice is beautiful & sympathetic & a little training may make her a singer of very high grade. Kowalski played a sort of fantasia from Don Giovanni, first playing each lovely melody clearly & simply, & then rending it limb from limb, as it were, with exhibitions of dexterity & “finger,” or rather degrading it into a subject for the display of his own clever manipulation. A newly-imported Spanish violinist with a brown sherry face, a friend of Lansing’s, did very well indeed. Mme. Gazzaniga sang Beethoven’s “Busslied” magnificently.”
