“The well-earned popularity of Mr. Adolph Neuendorff, manager of the Germania, Stadt and Terrace Garden theatres for so many seasons, and collaborator with Carl Rosa during the Wachtel furor, was fully demonstrated last night at the Academy of Music, before a crowded house. The opera was the most charming of all in the répertoire of the ópera bouffe, ‘Giroflé-Girofla,’ the best and most musical work written by Charles Lecocq, who may now be considered as the chief composer on the French bouffe stage. The cast presented on the occasion was admirable, consisting of the following artists [see above].

Miss Lina Mayr, who has acquired an artistic reputation on the German stage similar to that which Mlle. Aimée has so long enjoyed on the French, gave entire satisfaction in her rendering of the dual title rôle. Not a point of bewitching acting was lost, and the well cultivated voice of the fair prima donna gave more than ordinary importance to the sparkling music allotted to her. It was a very graceful and attractive tribute to the best of German managers in this city.”
