“At 3, this afternoon, seven Philharmonic & Teutonic directors (members of the board of directors) met in the library & sat an hour & a half. There were Bergner, Matzka, Mosenthal, Herwig, Bergmann, Boehm, & another whose name I could not make out [probably George Gissner, mentioned in a New York Post article inserted in Strong's diary, "The new Philharmonic president," 06/09/70, p. 2)]. I presided with dignity. Certain routine business was dispatched. We talked over the question of ‘reserved seats’ without coming to a decision. Funny to see the deference with which these gentlemen treat me, as ‘President’ each of them having more capacity & knowledge, pertinent to our purposes, in his little fingernail than I have in my whole body, brains, & boots.”
