“This afternoon for three hours at the Aschenbrödel—the German musicians’ clubhouse in E. 4th St. presiding over my faithful Philharmonics. They—or some of them—are rather diffuse & sometimes talk themselves leagues away from the subject under discussion. But they are not at all a bad lot to be associated with. They decided to advertise in six daily papers instead of the twenty or thirty they patronized last year. This change of policy will be attributed to the new administration, so the new president will probably be much denounced & derided during this season.”
