“Am just from an extra C. M. A. rehearsal at Steinway (the small room) with Jem [Ruggles]. About 60 present. The Quoniam & Dona of the Mass thoroughly worked out in detail—as were the Preciosa choruses. These latter are small & unpretending, but among the most fresh & genuine inspirations I know. What will they—and that gorgeous Mass—be with the orchestra! If Ellie & the children are well, & no adverse fortune assail us, & if my digestion be in order, hearing them so rendered will be among the supreme felicities of life—but I fear it will be a joy too fine.”
