: Strong, George Templeton. New-York Historical Society. The Diaries of George Templeton Strong, 1863-1869: Musical Excerpts from the MSs, transcribed by Mary Simonson. ed. by Christopher Bruhn., 29 September 1871.

“This afternoon, Schaad, Rietzel, Ureli Corelli Hill & myself, Committee of Philharmonic directors, conferred (here) about privileges to be given the press at Philharmonic concerts. We think it best to confine these privileges to the musical critics of five or six prominent papers, and to assign them good reserved seats. We hear that the Brooklyn Philharmonic is likely to scuttle & go down. It is not a society, but a subscription enterprise sustained by some twenty art-loving Brooklyn gentlemen. There is talk now of our taking it up, & thus becoming the Philharmonic Society of New York & Brooklyn! A large proposition—but worth considering. We may perhaps, thus largely increase the annual dividends to members of our orchestra.”
